Our mission
By helping the City of Melrose and its citizens save energy, the MEC helps to lower energy and utility bills, thus saving money.
Equally important is the long-range impact of reduced emissions that result from decreased energy consumption. The MEC
achieves its mission by promoting energy conservation, energy efficiency and renewable energy within municipal government as
well as educating and engaging residents and businesses in similar activities throughout the community.
Melrose is a Green Community
By adopting a series of energy-saving policies, Melrose became one of 35
Massachusetts cities and towns to qualify as a Green Community.

These policies include the adoption of a “stretch” code for new construction
and renovations as well as a commitment to reduce municipal energy use by
20 percent  in five years.
